This piece by the French writer and theatre-maker Antonin Artaud comes from the album Pour en finir avec le jugement de Dieu (Eng: Putting an End to God's Judgement), recorded in November 1947 in the Radiodiffusion française studios in Paris. The censorship prevented it from being broadcast on French radio in the television series La Voix des Poètes, scheduled for 2 February 1948. This led to protests, especially in artistic circles, and a clandestine publication of the text in the magazine Niza. Tutuguri, le rite du Soleil Noir is part of the album, which is a coherent work.

Artaud prepared the recording meticulously, although it seems to sound improvised. The work is perceived as a protest against the modern, machine-infused world in which God presumably failed and is arguing for rearrangement and purity to be restored.
