The piece Prélude et Etude by the Russian-French musician Ivan Wyschnegradsky is a recording of a concert in Paris on the 7th of January 1977, made by Radio France on audio cassette. Wyshnegradsky composed the piece in 1966, but it was not until the 1970s, shortly before his death, that his work received greater attention in the musical avant-garde. The piece was played on a piano constructed in 1/3-tone intervals by Julian Carillo. Wyschnegradsky became known in particular for his work in microtonal music, writing a wide variety of pieces for piano in quarter or even twelfth note intervals.
