Drip Music has been part of the Fluxus movement from the beginning and was already part of the first Fluxus event by George Maciunas in Wiesbaden in 1962. Besides the meaning of movement and change, the word "flux" stands for the flow rate of a liquid. Drip music thus became characteristic of the Fluxus movement and accompanied it continuously.

In his art, Brecht focused on sound on the one hand and on everyday occurrences and their details on the other. His reasoning: "No matter what you do, you're always hearing something". He described the purpose of his work as "ensuring that the details of everyday life, the random constellations of objects that surround us, stop going unnoticed." Thus, the detailed audibility of water drops hitting the ground is part of his fundamental, conceptual approach.

He explained the connection between his drip installations and music as follows: "There is perhaps nothing that is not musical. There's no moment in life that's not musical.... All instruments, musical or not, become instruments. "
