The Long String Instrument, developed by Ellen Fullman, is an installation of strings up to 21 metres long, which Fullman plays with her fingers coated with resin. Through stroking movements, Fullman sets several strings vibrating simultaneously, resulting in a diverse spectrum of tones. Due to the great length of the strings, the fundamental frequency partly vibrates in a frequency range that is no longer audible to the human ear but can very well be felt by the body. This results in a sound spectrum between very high and very low frequencies, which causes an extraordinary listening experience.

In the piece Langzaam, in addition to the Long Sting instrument, the Water Drip Drum designed by Fullman can be heard, an installation with dripping water which, when split open in a pot, produces sounds that can be heard electrically amplified as a drum.
