Legend has it that the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire was inspired to write the poem Le Pont Mirabeau after a quarrel with the painter and his lover Marie Laurencin. In it, he ponders on times gone by and the pain of love. According to the poem, Apollinaire's path to Marie Laurencin led over the Pont Mirabeau, which crosses the Seine in Paris.


The poem was published in the anthology Alcools, which is considered one of Apollinaire's most important publications.
