Title of the single: Andy Warhol's Index (1967)
Publisher: Random House Inc., New York
Date: 1967
Medium: picture flexi disc in book "Andy Warhol's Index (Book)"
Performer: The Velvet Underground

The picture disc Andy Warhol's Index is part of the artist book of the same name by the American multimedia and pop art artist Andy Warhol. In addition to the record, various illustrations and typographic experiments, the book contains elaborately designed pop-ups, fold-outs, fall-outs and tear-outs, as well as a balloon.

The record reproduces a conversation between the band members of The Velvet Underground about the book Andy Warhol's Index. They talk, while seemingly flipping through the pages, about the individual discoveries on the pages and their impressions. At the end of the piece, they suddenly seem to shift into a meta-level and talk about the record from which the recording of this conversation is to be played. They experiment with the realisation of having saved, at the same time, themselves and the content of this moment on the record.
