Salvador Dalí created an extensive libretto for the opera poem Être Dieu and is thus considered one of the few visual artists to have worked in this field.

The work was a collaboration with Federico García Lorca, whom Dalí had met during his studies in Barcelona. They cultivated a deep friendship and shared a room in the student dormitory for a time. The writer and poet Manuel Vázquez Montalbán supported Dalí in the realization of the libretto, and the music of the opera was composed by Igor Wakhévitch, a French avant-garde musician.

The opera consists of six parts, which were published in 1974 as a 3 LP box set. Dalí creates a fictitious self-portrait that places him in the role of a god. The first of six parts of the opera-poem can be heard here.
