Giacomo Balla's sound poem, Discussione sul futurismo di due critici sudanesi, is based on the fascination with the otherness and novelty that the African continent and its cultures exerted on many European artists of the early 20th century. Informed by the transmissions and information that colonialism brought to Europe, African cultures served to question their own. Balla shifted the discussion to the other side and had two Sudanese critics discuss Futurism in his poem. In the style of Futurism, the speakers use an onomatopoeic fantasy language.
