The Golden Record is a legendary work by the Moscow New Wave artists' group Fly Agaric, active in Moscow (USSR) from 1978 to 1986. It consists of a self-published audio cassette on which the members of the group recite their provocatively amateurish poetic texts against the backdrop of a collage of radio music. The collage ranges from ABBA and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 to the ringing of the Kremlin bells. In their poems, the youngest representatives of the alternative cultural scene treat the political and ideological tropes of Soviet mythology with playful irreverence. Their spontaneous and at times impudent manner is also a challenge to the established forms of conceptual art within the alternative scene.
