Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection of the John M. Flaxman Library

The Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection is one of SAIC's most popular Special Collections. It was officially named and established in 1989 as a separate entity within the John M. Flaxman Library. A memorial fund honoring the late Joan Flasch, a staff and faculty member of the School, provided furniture and equipment for the in-depth study of artists' publications. At that time the artists' book collection consisted of about 1,300 items, acquired by or donated to the library since the early 1960s. Today it exceeds 6,000 artworks, complemented by extensive reference materials. Growth continues through School funding and donations from those who share Joan's passion for artists' books.
